"I invite you to unravel with me; to tease apart of threads of time, culture, history, bloodlines, and earthly possessions. To peel back skin and muscle and bone; to identify the things you've inherited and name who and where those things came from; all the while asking yourself, 'Who am I'?"
-Mother Time, Inheritance: Maiden, Mother, Crone
The show also includes actual pieces of inheritance that have been passed down to us from our mothers and grandmothers. Each act, each story, each choreographed movement was created near and dear to our hearts. Take a moment to dive deeper into the purpose and inspiration behind a few of our favorite acts.
Doña gathered insight for her 'Shadow' piece through studying depth psychology in graduate school. The choreography is inspired by her own process of what it has been like to integrate her shadow self.
Do you remember the first time you were told who you 'should' and 'shouldn't' be? What would a conversation with your shadow self look like? Doña talks about her inspiration here.
Diva talks here about her 'Mother Ritual' piece, a poem she wrote for her mom as a mother's day gift. It is a celebration of her mother and all mothers.

A BURLEXPLORATION OF INHERITANCE: 4 WEEK SERIES
In the theatrical production Inheritance: Maiden, Mother Crone, Sinner Saint Burlesque uses performance art to examine the external forces that create who we are today. Some forces we celebrate and strengthen our gratitude for. Some we challenge and change on stage before the audience's very eyes, creating a new legacy for ourselves, women, and humankind.
This class is for brave humans of any age, race, class, gender, performance background (or lack thereof). This session is appropriate for anyone interested in creating performance art with meaning, healing through dramatic action, or using stripping as a means for personal growth and self empowerment. We do ask that all participants keep an open mind and a loving heart as we create a safe space to explore personal stories and try bold new things. No drop-ins. Must register for entire series.
