Jesse Belle-Jones explains why.
Reason # 3... The personal is political.
Unless you've been living in a teeny tiny hole your whole life, you know that women's voices, bodies, choices and lives are consistently a subject of political debate. The women of Sinner Saint use their agency to both entertain their audiences, and help them heal from the wounds of patriarchy, misogyny and violence against women by celebrating all of which women are capable.
Hold on. That is so awesome, we need to say it one more time...
The women of Sinner Saint use their agency to both entertain their audiences and help them heal from the wounds of patriarchy, misogyny and violence against women by celebrating all of which women are capable.
In the Summer Series, we are creating an exalted space for women in our community to share their personal and political art and stories, and to heal. Art is political. Performance is political. Demanding a space for women to be heard, seen and celebrated is political. And, we like politics as much as we like pasties - heck, maybe we'll even run for office one day!
This is what our Summer Series is about. The Summer Series productions are three unique community productions spotlighting local artists, and promoting community connection, both personal and political. Sinner Saint is your host for our Summer Series exploring female politics, mythology and archetypes in which we showcase the art, talent, passions and legacy of women in the Pacific Northwest and Seattle area. Expect to see dance, poetry, painting, singing, storytelling, education and advocacy. Get ready to engage with local artists and audiences and start a conversation about how art impacts you. There will even be an opportunity to participate in an auction of local female artists' work! But that is not all! You will also get to see a sneak preview of what Sinner Saint is preparing for our full-length production at Theatre Off Jackson in October 2014.
Get tickets for the Summer Series Crone Show, August 14th and explore the art and talents of women exploring the archetype and wisdom of the Crone with us.
Help us help women and men heal from the wounds of patriarchy, misogyny and violence against women. Help us help the community celebrate all of which women are capable.
