My Inheritance is shining the light through exploration and spectacle, and blending the process of questioning the world and the joy of curiosity so that we achieve a greater vision.
Drawing on the magical quilt of her various crafts, Lady Tatas arose amidst the art studios of the University of Washington in 2007 after graduating from Miss Indigo Blue’s Academy of Burlesque, taken as an outlet for her solitary practice of painting and printmaking. Born to a painter, making art was an integral part of everyday life, thanks to her mother Daphne Robinson. A myriad of after-school dance classes, theater camps, and A.P. art classes was a way of life, and going on to achieve a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts only made sense.
Sewing together camp and flare, drawing on humor and surrealism, and calling upon extravagance and spectacularity, Lady Tatas challenges the audience to question. Inspired by the vast spectrum of drag culture, John Waters films, old musicals, Lucille Ball, and American kitch and pop culture, Tatas interweaves her skill of sculptural surface design, her fascination with spectacle, her sense of comedy, and not to mention her assets to create satirical vignettes. She hopes to challenge, inspirit, arouse, and elicit exploration in her audience.
